Kaapzicht Estate
Dormershire is a boutique wine estate situated in the Stellenbosch wine region and is the Stellenbosch estate located closest to Cape Town. The estate encompasses only nine hectares and has, since 1996, been developed with plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz cultivars.
The estate, owned by attorney Paul Frost and his wife Sunette(who is the winemaker and effectively runs the estate), has a 100-ton cellar and an upmarket sales- and tasting facility, which has recently been completed. The property has a picture-perfect view of Table Mountain, which is also depicted on the front label of the wines. In keeping with its boutique nature, harvesting is done by hand to ensure minimal interference with nature and that grapes are only picked at optimum ripeness. Bunches are then hand sorted and selected in the cellar to obtain optimum quality wines. Red wines are matured in small French oak barrels in the estate’s maturation cellar which provides storage space for approximately 250 barrels. . While reds (both the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon received Veritas Awards in 2005) play the lead role here, Sunette consulting with Kowie du Toit made the Sauvignon Blanc on the property for the first time last harvest, along with a new wooded Rosé.
