Nearly 60 years on, the Jordaans’ (Cape) Riesling remains a fad-resistant evergreen, an icon of ‘Old Cape’ in an area which is arguably the fastest-changing in the winelands. In other nods to continuity, the cellar still produces more white than red wine, and is still a registered estate: ‘Perhaps the term adds character,’ says winemaker Andries J, ‘especially in the case of farms where family is involved.’ And family is very much involved here: from Kobus and Rennie, the sons of founding father Andries, to their wives and their sons, Andries Jnr and Wagner.
