Swings and roundabouts in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley: Kevin Grant, formerly of Hamilton Russell Vineyards, has moved to over-the-rise Sumaridge (in an advisory capacity), while Hannes Storm, ex-Sumaridge winemaker and a Grant protégé, has moved to… you-know-where. But not before Storm presided over the 2004 Sumaridge harvest, one of the most difficult to date, with uncharacteristic weather and the presence of his younger brother, Ernst (now off to California), to keep him on his toes. But Hannes S took it all in his stride, living by his motto that ‘everything always works out for the best, so no need to stress’. Grant also advises other wineries in the valley and plans to launch his own label.
