Swept past the Cape in  violent storm, the Potuguese navigator Bartolomeu Diaz discovered the Cape Point peninsula only on his return voyage from the East aroind the southern tip of Africa in 1488.
The narrow peninsula, flanked by the cold Atlantic Ocean in the west and the warn Indian Ocean in the east, was originally cultivated by the Dutch who landed at the Cape in 1652. Acentury later, the first vines were planted in Noordhoek.
In 1996, on this same land, the new vines of Cape Point Vineyards were re-established by Sybrand van der Spuy, the owner of Noordhoek Estate.

A combination of barrel and tank fermentation results in a nose that tends to show tropical fruit, citrus and some subtle herbal/khaki bush characteristics. With time this wine tends to show some oyster and brine characteristics, resulting in a fantastic mineral backbone to yield a wine which ages beautifully over 5 years. Cape Point Vineyards Cape Point Vineyards Chardonnay 2008  Limited Release Cape Point Vineyards Chardonnay grapes are grown on the picturesque south-facing Noordhoek slopes in the Peninsula's southern-most vineyards and harvested by hand in the early hours of the morning. This wine presents complex arrays of citrus and apricot flavours, with strong minerality and some subtle toasty notes. This all follows onto a full palate with crisp acids and great length.
