What response to expect from internationally acknowledged class act Kanonkop when asked about its winemaking philosophy, after decades of producing fine wine Co-owner Johann Krige replies: ‘To increase minimum quality requirements year on year — ask Michael Schumacher.’ And what has this champion of the Cape’s F1-wine-circuit recently done to tweak its performance What many other competitors have: refurbished its processing cellar to incorporate hand-sorting tables; and brought on board a dedicated viticulturist (Koos du Toit, freeing winemaker Abrie Beeslaar to concentrate on vinification and elaboration, under the eagle eye of veteran Beyers Truter, now acting as a consultant after 20 years full-time on the estate).
